Large Print Word Search Puzzles
Our large print word search puzzles use a 12 × 12 grid of bold letters at 30 point, each letter in its own box almost half an inch wide, with 10 words to find listed in big type under the grid. Every word search is a full US Letter page in black on white, made to print at home. You get 8 new ones in each monthly Large Print Puzzle Club pack, alongside sudoku, mazes, word scrambles and number puzzles.

What makes a word search "large print"
There's no official standard, so here's exactly what ours look like:
- Grid letters at 30 point. Every letter in a puzzle grid in our packs is at least 24 point. On word search pages, they're 30 point and bold.
- One letter per box. Each letter sits in its own square, almost half an inch across, so your eye doesn't slide from one letter to the next.
- A smaller grid. We use 12 × 12 grids rather than packing 20 or more letters into a row. Fewer letters per line means each one can be bigger.
- A big word list. The 10 words to find are printed in bold, three columns wide, under the grid.
- Instructions you can read. Every instruction line is at least 18 point.
- Plain black on white. No shaded backgrounds, no photos and no color, so it prints clearly on any home printer.
- A clear typeface. Everything is set in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed for clear, easy reading.
How a word search works
Each puzzle has a theme, like Backyard Birds, In the Kitchen or Baking Day. Ten words that fit the theme are hidden in the grid. The other squares are filled with random letters.
Where the words can hide
Words run in a straight line in any of eight directions:
- across, left to right or right to left
- up or down
- diagonally, in any of the four diagonal directions
Words can cross and share a letter. Most words read forward (left to right, top to bottom, or diagonally downward or upward to the right), and some read backward.
Marking what you find
Circle each word in the grid, then tick it off the list. A pencil is easiest, because you can erase a wrong circle. If you'd rather use a highlighter, choose a light color so the letters stay readable.
Tips for finding words faster
- Start with the longest words. A long word has more letters to spot and fewer places it can fit.
- Hunt for an unusual letter. If a word has a K, W, Y or V, scan the grid for that letter first, then check around it.
- Look for doubled letters. Words like KETTLE, APPLE or COFFEE have a pair of the same letter side by side, which is easy to spot.
- Go row by row with a guide. Lay a ruler or the edge of a card under the row you're reading.
- Don't forget backward words. If a word won't turn up, read the grid right to left and bottom to top.
- Take a break. A word you couldn't see five minutes ago often jumps out when you come back.
Stuck for good? The answer key at the back of the pack shows every word, shaded in a copy of the grid.
How to print a word search so it stays large
The letters are only as big as your printer makes them. These settings keep them at full size:
- Paper: US Letter (8.5 × 11 inches). Ordinary copy paper works. Slightly heavier paper (24 lb instead of the usual 20 lb) feels sturdier and lets less pencil or highlighter show through.
- Scale: In your print window, choose Actual size or 100%. Avoid "Shrink oversized pages" or a custom scale below 100%, which make the letters smaller.
- A4 paper? Choose Fit to page. The page will print a little smaller than it would on US Letter.
- Quality: Use "Normal" or "Standard." "Draft" or "Economy" mode can make the letters print grey and faint.
- Color: Black and white (greyscale) is all you need.
- Just the pages you want: In the print window, type page numbers into the "Pages" box, for example
2-3, to print only those pages.
You can print the same page as often as you like for yourself and your household. Our how it works page covers printing the whole pack.
What's in each pack
A monthly pack is one PDF with 32 puzzles, one per page, plus a cover page and answer keys at the back. Every puzzle set in 18-point type or larger. It has 10 word searches, 8 sudoku (4 easy, 4 medium), 6 mazes, 4 word scrambles and 4 number puzzles (59 pages in the October 2026 pack). The one-time gift pack and each bonus pack have 24 puzzles, like this:
| Puzzle type | How many (24-puzzle gift and bonus packs) |
|---|---|
| Word searches | 8 |
| Sudoku (easy and medium) | 6 |
| Mazes | 4 |
| Word scrambles | 3 |
| Number puzzles | 3 |
Each word search in a pack has a different theme. Themes are everyday subjects, and they change every month. The October 2026 word searches include At the Zoo, By the Sea, Baking Day and Pond Life, along with a seasonal Autumn Harvest page. Some months add a seasonal theme, like Autumn Harvest or Thanksgiving Table. We write the word lists ourselves.

Checked before it reaches you
Our software builds each word search and then checks it with a separate program before a pack goes out:
- Every listed word really is in the grid. The checker searches all eight directions and finds each word.
- No unpleasant surprises. The finished grid is scanned in all eight directions, forward and backward, against a list of rude or offensive words. If one turns up by accident among the random letters, the grid is rebuilt.
